Set up in 1973, Altroconsumo is the more influential and important consumers organisation in Italy. Our strength comes from the membership fees of over 350,000 members. They make us free and independent.
Altroconsumo’s mission is to protect and promote consumers rights by a set of different activities, mainly: products testing, inquiries, news drafting, enforcement activities and legal actions. Thanks to a team of more than 280 professionals ranging from lawyers to journalists, engineers, food and health experts, economists and financial analysts, we can reach over 350.000 families with our 5 magazines and the web site, organize collective group purchase for energy and other products/services, give more than 400.000 advices a year via internal contact-center and solve lots of claims by means of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures.
Over the last years, Altroconsumo’s lodged several class actions to the courts in Milan, Rome and Venice. Among the most popular we can mention the ones against Volkswagen Group and Facebook.
More than 70.000 were the Italian adherents to #DemandForJustice class action for the Dieselgate scandal, while Facebook campaign for privacy violations and unfair commercial practices enrolled more than 110.000 consumers. Altroconsumo is also moving toward a new approach with the market players. Our FestivalFuturo is an example of the new dialogue that allows consumers, enterprises, institutions to share views, experiences and idea for a better tomorrow.
We look outside borders, as consumers rights are a worldwide value. That’s why we are member of BEUC (The European Consumers Organisation), member of Consumers International but also member of the National Consumers Committee (within the Italian Ministry of Economic Development).
