The Economic Value of Online Reviews: Measuring the Impact on Business Performance and Consumer Trust

How much do consumers rely on online reviews before buying? A Euroconsumers survey in Belgium, Italy, Spain and Portugal finds that many consumers check reviews before purchasing online, most often in Italy (65%) and Spain (61%), followed by Portugal (55%) and Belgium (50%). The higher the price, the more likely consumers are to consult reviews, especially for household appliances and high-tech devices, while books are the least reviewed category. Those who skip reviews mostly say they simply didn’t feel the need.
