Access to affordable medicines ranked as consumers’ top priority for the incoming MEPs and new European Commission in Euroconsumers’ Election Survey, and for good reason. Drug shortages mean essential medicines are often unavailable exactly when patients need them most. In this paper, Euroconsumers examines the problem of medicine shortages from the consumer perspective and calls on EU policymakers to ensure reliable access to affordable medicines for everyone.
