Resource use and the generation of waste from electrical and electronic equipment has rapidly increased over the years. Extending the useful lifetime of devices is a promising way to keep precious resources within the economy and to reduce waste. The EU-funded PROMPT project aims to develop an independent testing programme for premature obsolescence which will support the assessment of the longevity of consumer products when they are put on the market. It will help extend the useful lifetime of products and contribute to the transition to a circular economy. The project will provide designers and policymakers with recommendations on improving the durability of products, empower consumers to make informed choices, and create awareness of market conditions.
The Project has received funding from the European Union´s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 820331.
