After more than 50 years defending the rights of citizens, OCU is broadening its vision and activity to address some of today’s biggest social, environmental and educational challenges.

OCU Donación is a new social initiative that will channel the solidarity of those who believe in social justice and transforming lives.   

OCU is inviting people to join OCU Donacion to support a series of interconnected causes that will activate real change towards a better society. 

Connecting social, environmental and educational action  

Donors can choose between four areas: protecting children in the digital world, accompanying vulnerable people and our elders, supporting young people or taking care of the planet.

In practice, progress on each of these causes will support and help the rest of them – by supporting the most vulnerable, educating to prevent problems and harms and by building a more responsible society, where transparency, ethics and respect guide action.

Here are more details on the four areas where OCU and its donors will activate lasting change:

1. Connected and protected vulnerable consumers and seniors: bridging the digital divide.

Many older people can feel left out or lost in an increasingly busy and complicated digital world. They are encouraged to use online services to manage their lives, but fraudulent messages, confusing websites or misleading calls can generate fear and isolation.

OCU Donaciones wants no person to feel alone or vulnerable in the face of technology.

They will develop and promote programs that facilitate digital inclusion and teach older people how to detect fraud.  This will help them stay connected to the world, with autonomy and peace of mind.  But it’s not just seniors who will feel the change – promoting a more accessible and secure digital environment will help everyone online.

2. Boosting the economic future of young people: building financial and economic health.

Many young people live with the pressure of making ends meet and the fear of not knowing where to start. An increasing number of young people are struggling with confusing bills, mounting debt, and complex contracts. Many feel isolated, overwhelmed, and without the support they need.

OCU Donaciones will target donations into training and guidance that helps young people take control of their budgets and build a more stable future. They will cover financial education, fraud prevention and savings planning.

3. Safe childhood in the digital world: tackling addiction to social networks and mental health for teenagers.

Today’s childhood is full of screens and networks, but not always security. Every day, countless children encounter new forms of online harassment, pressure, and abuse. Many feel isolated, unsure how to respond or where to seek help.

OCU Donacion provides digital training to help children build a healthy and safe relationship with technology and manage these challenges.  

Initiatives will strengthen digital education, empower families, and prevent online bullying – so that technology can once again be a source of learning, connection, and well-being.

4. Fight against greenwashing: taking care of the planet starts with demanding the truth.

Consumers want to support brands that are sustainable, but some loud voices are drowning out authentic companies with exaggerated green claims that don’t stand up to scrutiny.

This is ‘greenwashing’ – a modern form of deception with campaigns that sound ecological, products that seem sustainable, and promises that turn out to be false.

OCU Donacion wants to unmask these practices and offer citizens clear, truthful and accessible information. Public donations will enable research and education to call out fake claims and promote responsible consumption and a real ecological transition.
