OCU is a private, independent and non-profit consumer organization subject to the requirements established in the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users and other complementary laws (LGDCU).

Its main values are independence, influence and utility. OCU defends consumer rights and works to create a transparent and fair consumer society. It offers to the citizens an objective, independent and truthful information so that they can make the best consumer decisions. It is one of the most important consumer organizations in Spain thanks to the strength and independence given by the more than 200,000 members who, with their support, make their work on behalf of consumers possible. The organization is independent of any economic or political influence. The benefits obtained from their activities are intended for the fulfillment of our mission. OCU believes in dialogue, truthful information and the power of consumer decisions as an engine of social development. Also bet by a transparent market with a high level of competition. In order to do this, it uses the strength and influence to improve the market and obtain more interesting conditions in products and services helping members in saving money. OCU goal is to be useful for society and especially to its members. Advises, informs and defends its rights, making the voice of consumers heard where it is needed.

In Spain OCU has the status of most representative association and belongs to the Council of Consumers and Users, represents consumers in the Economic and Social Council, the Food Safety Agency, the Medicines Agency and the Advisory Council of Environment. At international level in addition to Euroconsumers, OCU is part of the main international consumer organizations such as the European Consumer Organization (BEUC), the Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD), Consumers International (CI) and International Consumer Research & Testing (ICRT).
