About the event

Coming Together – Redefining Europe’s Competitiveness with People at the Center

The Euroconsumers International Forum is back, and bigger than ever!  After last year’s standout edition in Brussels, we’re returning to the beautiful Solvay library on November 27 for the 7th annual gathering of consumer voices, market leaders, policymakers, and visionaries. Coming Together to build a Competitive Europe.

This year’s theme, Coming Together, is a call to unite innovation, governance, and people. In the midst of an ever-changing geopolitical and economical scene, Europe today is seeking not only to adapt but to lead, and to do so with consumers at the center. We’ll explore two intertwined forces shaping Europe’s competitive future: the drive for creative innovation and the need for strong, collaborative governance.

In true EC Forum fashion, we’re mixing ideas with inspiration, and this time, we’re taking a cultural cue from one of the most iconic bands in history: The Beatles. Much like the Beatles redefined cultural and creative boundaries, this forum seeks to redefine the boundaries of innovation and governance by blending inspiration, policy, and real-world action. Their message of imagination, unity, and reinvention sets the tone. Whether it’s the optimism of We Can Work It Out, the idealism of Imagine, or the collective spirit of Come Together, their legacy reminds us what’s possible when people join forces with purpose.

Expect a dynamic lineup of speakers, from global thought leaders to changemakers on the ground. We’ll dive into pressing topics like young consumers in the online world, unlocking the competitive potential of novel foods and fighting scams, and the way forward for a competitive Europe. And of course, we’ll once again celebrate innovation and impact with the much-anticipated Euroconsumers awards.

Let’s come together to listen, challenge, collaborate, and take action!

COMING TOGETHER FOR A COMPETITIVE EUROPE

In a world reshaped daily by geopolitical shifts, economic uncertainty, and global power rebalancing, Europe must adapt, reposition, and reinforce its resilience. How do we build a stronger, more self-sufficient and competitive Union—one that puts people at the center? By Coming Together and join forces.

This high-level public forum brings together EU and national policymakers, business leaders, academics, civil society, and consumer advocates to tackle this critical question.

Together, we’ll explore how consumer protection and empowerment can be powerful drivers for a fair, resilient, and globally competitive Europe.

Expect forward-looking dialogue, shared solutions, and strategic insights to shape the future of the Internal Market—and Europe’s place in the world.

KEYNOTES

BRUNO MAÇÃES – The New Geopolitics and the Future of Europe

As one of the most original and insightful geopolitical thinkers of today, Bruno Maçães argues that countries and regions do not dispute only physical territories anymore. In fact, it is the power to create new spaces in the digital world that matters most. How this new reality is changing the competitive position of traditional players like Europe and how it can keep its relevance and thrive? Those are some of the questions to be addressed by Bruno Maçães who is also former Portuguese State Minister for European Affairs.

RIK VERA – Unlocking Europe Innovation in a Disruptive Moment

As a “professional quention-asker” and global keynote speaker, Rik Vera has helped companies and institutions to find new ways of innovating and competing. In his first participation at the EC Forum, we can expect considerations on how to relaunch Europe as a competitive force, despite its heavy regulatory framework, and how consumer protection can become a source of innovation and not a limit or a  burden.

ALBERTO ALEMANNO

At Euroconsumers 2025, Professor Alberto Alemanno—Europe’s leading public interest advocate and founder of The Good Lobby—will challenge the audience to rethink the role of Europe’s 450 million consumers in shaping the continent’s future. As the rule-based world order erodes and the EU faces pressure to dilute its regulatory power, Alemanno argues that Europe’s true strength may lie not in deregulation but in harnessing everyday consumer decisions as geopolitical tools. By turning purchasing choices into collective influence—reshoring critical industries, holding companies accountable, exporting European values, and transforming consumption into a form of citizenship—he invites us to imagine a new form of democratic power in which Europe’s €9 trillion consumer market becomes a decisive force in its global positioning.

EUROCONSUMERS AWARDS 2025

Awarding Excellence, Powered by Product Testing Expertise and Consumers Experience

Now in its seventh edition, the Euroconsumers Awards (formerly known as the BeXt Awards, which recognized brands across criteria such as value for money and eco-friendliness) continue to celebrate brands that stand out for their product quality, reliability, and consumer satisfaction.
However, the 2025 edition marks a significant shift: the Euroconsumers Awards now focus on product-based excellence in key sectors: hi-tech, large household appliances, and small household appliances. Product categories include: Smartphones, TV, Tablets, Smartwatches, Upright VC cordless, Microwaves ovens, Airfryers, Coffee Machines Automatic, Washing Machines, Tumble Dryers, Dishwashers and Cold Appliances.

This means the awarded brands are those whose products lead the way in both expert testing and real-world consumer experience, reflecting what truly matters to consumers.

How Is the Best Brand Chosen?

Each brand receives a score from 0 to 100, based on four key factors:

  • Lab Test Results (45%): Over the past 24 months, we tested more than 3,000 products in specialized laboratories across four countries (Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Belgium). Only objective, technical performance—based on the average results of each brand’s tested products—is considered.
  • Frequency of Top-Quality Products (10%): We assessed how often a brand’s products appear among the highest-ranking items, demonstrating consistent high quality.
  • Reliability (Based on Real Users) (25%): Consumers told us how often their products broke down, how serious the issues were, how old their products are, and how frequently they are used. We ensured comparability across brands by adjusting for respondents’ countries, product ranges, and product types.
  • Overall Satisfaction (Based on Real Users) (20%): Consumers rated their overall satisfaction with their products. Adjustments were made for product type, range, and country to ensure fair comparisons.

Data on reliability and satisfaction were collected directly from consumers in several European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
