Empowering consumers to PREVENT diet-related diseases through OMICS sciences
Multi-omics-based platform to prevent diet-related diseases
Many chronic diseases have multiple causal factors, which can be modulated through diet and the correction of nutritional habits. The disease-inducing factors include alterations in lipid and glucose metabolism, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and gut microbiome dysfunction. The strategy of personalized nutrition is growing in popularity and requires adequate delivery tools as well as an understanding of diet variables for personalization, and the removal of barriers in the way of healthy habits. The EU-funded PREVENTOMICS project is building a new paradigm in personalized nutrition strategies based on multi-omics data paving the way towards a more accessible personalized nutrition. The project effort includes the integration of genetic, nutritional and psychological data with metabolomics technologies and computational modelling to evaluate the incidence of disease-inducing factors on the organism.
